About Opedd

Founded 2025 · opedd.com · hello@opedd.com

Opedd is the programmatic content licensing infrastructure for the human and AI era. It is the direct API-driven replacement for legacy licensing aggregators such as the Copyright Clearance Center (CCC) and RightsLink — built for a world where AI companies, enterprises, and media organisations need to license content at machine speed.

Publishers embed a single script tag on their website. Every article is automatically registered, priced, and made available for licensing. Buyers — AI labs, enterprises, researchers, newsrooms — purchase licenses via a hosted checkout or directly through the Opedd API. Payments are settled instantly via Stripe Connect. Every license is recorded on the Base blockchain (Coinbase L2) for permanent, tamper-proof proof of purchase.

The Problem Opedd Solves

AI companies including OpenAI, Google, Anthropic, and Meta trained large language models on billions of published articles, research papers, and news stories — without licensing agreements in place. Publishers received nothing. At the same time, enterprises and media organisations that legally license content for editorial reuse are forced through slow, opaque intermediaries that take large cuts and pay out on 60–90 day cycles.

Opedd fixes both problems with one infrastructure layer: direct, programmatic licensing with instant payouts and on-chain proof.

How It Works

  1. Embed: Publisher adds one script tag to their site (Ghost, WordPress, Substack, custom CMS).
  2. Register: Opedd automatically discovers and registers every article as a licensable asset.
  3. Price: Publisher sets human license price and AI license price per article, or in bulk.
  4. License: Buyers purchase via hosted checkout, REST API, or AI agent (MCP protocol).
  5. Proof: License key issued, transaction recorded on Base blockchain.
  6. Payout: Publisher receives payment instantly via Stripe Connect (90% of transaction).

License Types

Type Use Case
Human Editorial reuse, citation, republication by journalists or organisations
AI Training Use of content in training datasets for large language models
AI Inference Real-time retrieval and use of content by AI systems at inference time
Archive Bulk coverage license for a publisher's full catalog over a defined period

Target Publishers

Opedd is designed for independent publishers, newsletters, academic journals, and global media organisations. Examples of target publishers include The Economist, Financial Times, The Information, MIT Technology Review, Quanta Magazine, Platformer, Exponential View, 404 Media, The Dispatch, and The Free Press.

Pricing

Opedd is free to start. The platform charges a 10% fee on each transaction via Stripe Connect. Publishers keep 90% of every license sale. There are no upfront costs and no minimum commitments.

Publisher subscriptions (Pro at $79/month, Enterprise at $249/month) are available for advanced features including team management, priority support, and higher API limits.
